I don't instantly come across as the doily-type. The doily-type of person has matching bathroom accessories [ie, soap dish + toothpaste holder]. The doily-sort has coverned toilet seats and tissue box covers and the doily-type does not have a bike pump by the front door and a good dose of Ikea furniture. That said, I fell in love with this a while ago. Can a doily look modern? I think so.
I love the contrasting textures of the frilly with the table. And the whites and creams against the wood is wonderful. Some of the doilies are handmade, one of them by my grandmother. They have all been collected over the period of a few months at thrift shops & flea markets [and ok, I cheated and got a few to finish it up this weekend on Etsy]. To assembly I just tied them together strategically with small pieces of embroidery floss. For a while I was thinking about doing an entire tablecloth, but that might just be overkill. So doily runner it shall remain. Which is good- because I like it.
